As a graduate of the first and only Psychedelic Practitioner Training that Synthesis offered, I am so fully of mixed feelings about how Synthesis is falling apart.
I am a healthcare provider and also trained in the CIIS CPTR program - and I have to say I found Synthesis’ training to be rich and well intentioned. Although we had no direct hands on psychedelic facilitation training, the program and the Immersion last August was one of the most profound and educational experiences of my personal and professional life. I am full of gratitude to Daan, James, Lesley, Rachel L, Norma, Phillip, Courtney and so many more I can’t name here for their dedication and integrity in caring for our cohort. I hope everyone lands on their feet. ❤️🍄
Although as far I am concerned no one writes better about the ethics of mental health and happiness than you Jules, as a forced emigre from your now defunct philosophy newsletter and with no knowledge or particular interest in the new psychedelics movement, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect here. But the story of Synthesis - to an extent a familiar mix of good intentions and ego - is entertainingly and insightfully told and appears to ask some important questions about whether these retreats can ever be rolled out at scale without self- defeating consequences. Fascinating article.
A great, thorough and honest job. Super timely and insightful when addressing some really relevant issues. Thank you!
I'd love to hear the leaders' honest account of the process, too. It'd be another invaluable piece of the puzzle in the quest for lessons that can be applied in this emerging field.
It's unfortunate that they wouldn't respond to the invite this time but maybe we'll hear their story at their own timing, in their own way.

Thanks a lot for your work.
Very fair and balanced article, considerate of all involved. Thank you! Different models are definitely needed.
I continue to believe that existing religious containers can be part of widespread access and support.
This feels a little too much like an imbalanced, opportunistic hit piece
Where's the podcast? I can't find it anywhere.
Excellent piece, Jules. Several of the grafs are devastating in their succintness. I've passed this around to many.
Thanks for a very well-written & delicate piece on a difficult story
